Formal Dining Room (28' x 57')
Located to the left of the marble staircase, this room was used for large gatherings and social functions. Note the lovely marble stairs leading to the courtyard. This serves as well for an elegant musicians’ balcony. The light fixtures are believed to have held artificial birds perched on them. Notice the French chandeliers and sconces: more of these are scattered throughout the mansion and are estimated to be valued close to three quarters of a million dollars. The mirrors on the east wall are original and are part of the décor conceived by designer John Russell Pope.
