The Archaeology of Everyone Who's Anyone: How Herring Run Park Tells the Story of Baltimore's High Society

Lecturers: Dr. Lisa Kraus and Jason Shellenhamer, M.A., R.P.A. of the Herring Run Archaeology Project

Lisa Kraus and Jason Shellenhamer, the directors of the Herring Run Archaeology Project, will discuss the last three years of work at the Eutaw Manor House, which was once the country seat of William Smith and his descendants, the Hall family. The all-volunteer team of excavators knew they had something special from the moment they discovered this remarkable archaeological site, but never suspected they'd discover connections between the people who lived at Eutaw and some of the most fascinating and important events and people in Baltimore's history - including the Garretts. Find out how one little knoll in a wilderness park in Northeast Baltimore revealed a story of family, fortune, strife, and survival across two centuries.
