The Dispersal & Discovery of Lost Treasures:
The Contents of 11 West Mt. Vernon Place
Lecturer: Edward Heimiller, Curator, The Stephen J. Ponzillo, Jr. Memorial Library & Museum of the Grand Lodge of A. F. & A. M. of Maryland (Maryland Masonic Museum)
After the passing of Dr. Henry Barton Jacobs in 1939, between December 10th & 12th of 1940 a sale of the contents of 11 West Mt. Vernon Place dispersed the exceptional collections and furnishings accumulated over a lifetime by his late wife, the former Mrs. Robert Garrett. While a number of notable Baltimoreans purchased items at the sale, over the years their connection to 11 West Mt. Vernon Place has often been forgotten or overshadowed by subsequent owners, such as Baltimore's famous Haussner's Restaurant. Baltimore historian Edward Heimiller will show rarely seen photographs of the interiors and describe who attended the sale as he follows the hunt to discover the fates of a selection of furnishings and art treasures that once graced Baltimore's extraordinary Garrett-Jacobs Mansion.
Tours of the Mansion will be offered at 1 pm prior to the lecture at 2 pm. All tickets are $15. Complimentary Valet Parking for those attending the lecture. To register please call 410.539.6914 or email [email protected].
